We teamed with our friends at RPA for this acid romp inside a designer’s head. This was a really fun film for us to make from shooting with legendary cinematographer Bill Pope to taking concept designs and letting our imaginations run wild.

ADWEEK Ad of the Day

ADWEEK Ad of the Day: Honda’s ‘Dreamer’ Is an Acid-Level Romp Inside an Auto Designer’s Mind

“The spot is a fantastical, surreal representation of the Honda ideation process,” RPA executive creative director Jason Sperling tells Adweek. “We wanted to showcase the Civic’s beautiful design and performance, but do it through the prism of the brand. The spot is a great marriage of the way Honda thinks and the byproduct of their thinking.”

After the client approved the concept and the work began, “we all had to use our imaginations—for a very long time,” Sperling says. “For months, all we had to go on was reference material and wireframes. As you might expect, the postproduction process was incredibly intensive on this project. Our amazing partner Roof had to create a world from scratch, all in CGI.”

Stash Media: THE SURREAL SIDE OF NAT GEO’S “BRAIN GAMES”

“I designed everything straight in 3D, I created a story that would engage momentum and create build up, the story spins around the little surreal sets that reveals later the brain games logo. I wanted the camera to be smooth and as simple as possible to balance with the amount of details and colors in the logo.

“I believe the details will allow the viewer to watch the video multiple times and still discover something new, and that is what I wanted.”- Vinicius Costa of Roof

Creativity Online

Creativity Online and Bernstein & Andriulli: Roof Studio Constructs the American Dream with American Express

NYC based Roof Studio captures the excitement of business expansion through the purchasing capabilities of the American Express Open Card.

“As we leave behind a record recession for the American economy, there is huge opportunity for growth. The economic contraction forced many businesses to become leaner and focus on necessities, making for work that is more efficient and focused. But recent employment numbers and economic growth the last couple years means that part of our history is mostly over. For business owners, now is the opportunity to start expanding again, using the lessons learned from the downturn. American Express Business wants to be the one to enable the next period of growth and tapped Roof Studio to help them spread their message through a series of print ads and a video that visualizes their hopes for their customers.”

ADWEEK

Gyro San Francisco teamed up with ROOF Studio to launch a digital campaign for Toshiba entitled “Bring Life Forward.”

A new 50-second spot promotes Toshiba’s “plans to create clean smart communities through green infrastructure.” Gyro and ROOF envision a near future where wind and solar energy are widespread. To visualize this they show a woman look out her window and then reach through her tablet, her hand becoming a tool that transforms power plants into wind turbines and installs solar panels on the roofs of houses. At the end of the spot, the city landscape is transformed into a futuristic version of itself. It’s a visually imaginative way to show Toshiba’s Smart Community initiative, and comes across as intriguing and memorable. As it is just the beginning of a larger digital campaign, it will be interesting to see how it unfolds from here.

We created 45 attention capturing bumpers for french broadcast company TF1. Working with Naked Compagnie, each 3D animated bumper was carefully designed and combined with visual effects to have its own unique world.

icons-02_small

The Foundry

The Foundry:

Four seconds isn’t a lot of time at all, but it’s enough for Roof Studio to convey an incredible and eccentric sense of enthusiasm—one that proves infectious upon viewing. The Brooklyn, New York-based studio did so in its charming bumpers for TF1 France, providing the television network with little bursts of imaginative bliss to intersperse amidst between its programming and advertisements.

Despite the brief runtime of the individual animated videos, the project was quite sizable overall, with Roof and collaborator Naked Compagnie tasked with creating 45 such bumpers—each different than the last. This proved an ambitious goal for the still-new studio, which was founded at the start of 2013 by a trio of seasoned creative professionals.

Studio Daily:

“In this new short film for US Cellular, Brooklyn’s Roof Studios highlights simple, summertime pleasures with a blend of paper cutout-style 2D illustration and 3D animation, bringing a refreshing hand-crafted feel to a typically VFX-infused landscape. Roof co-founders Vinicius Costa, Guto Terni (co-creative directors) and Crystal Campbell (executive producer) worked with the Boston-based ad agency Mullen.”
